The L.A. society has their own website where you can sign up for their newsletter and learn more about bird watching events in the area. You can also learn how to join the society and start participating in club events.

Bird watching as a group is much more rewarding than doing so on your own. You get to meet other bird enthusiasts and learn from those who have more experience than you. Other enthusiasts can teach you about man aspects of the hobby. You might learn more about the best supplies to carry, the best places to watch for birds, and how to identify the birds you see. The first thing you will probably want to buy is a good pair of bird watching binoculars. Binoculars come in various strengths, models and sizes. For bird watching, I feel that smaller is better because you will also probably be carrying a tape recorder and/or notepad and identification book. The less weight you have to lug around, the better. Many bird watchers carry a pack that is attached around the waist or carried over the shoulder.

Bird watching in Los Angeles can be very rewarding indeed. According to the Audubon Society, there are several rare birds that the club is on the lookout for in the Souther California area. They are the Semipalmated Sandpiper, Black Tern, Indigo Bunting and Northern Parula. One of the most rewarding things about bird watching is that sometimes you might get lucky enough to spot a rare or endangered species that most people do not get to see. Of course, seeing more plentiful birds is just as special for birding enthusiasts.
